This weekend’s fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena Arena in Las Vegas has been called “the biggest commercial night in the history of combat sports.” With millions of live viewers expected to tune in to the event, PSSI Global Services will be bringing our A-game to make sure no one misses a punch.
On the C-band side, Jim Flowers and Joe Cox will be ready for action with C23 and C14. On the Ku-band side, Dave Meyer will be there with our Frontline truck, and Ray Loyko will be manning K19. John Bright, Matt Huennekens, Nathan Holsey will be on-site as well with K34. Mike Lemieux, Tracy Michaels and Brian Blomstrom will also be there with our dual-band CK35. Everyone will be collaborating to cover the action from the press conferences, media tour, weight-in, and of course, the big night.
Across the country in New York, we’ll be at the Turning Stone Resort Casino for Friday night’s Bellator 182. Blake Blomstrom, Mike Howley, Marc Sarazin and Terry Glover will be there providing coverage as Veta Arteaga takes on Bruna Ellen, Blair Tugman goes up against A.J. McKee, Brennan Ward faces Fernando Gonzalez, and Chidi Njokuani fights Andrey Koreshkov.
On the West Coast, we’ll be at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, for World Championship Boxing on HBO. Engineer in charge (EIC) Paul Blomstrom, Mark Huss, Chris Hovden and Jose Sanchez will be there along with our Starlight truck and K16 to cover Miguel Cotto vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai and Rey Vargas vs. Ronny Rios.
Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall on Friday in Southern Texas. We’ll be working with the Weather Channel in the Houston area to bring you up-to-the-minute reports on the storm’s progress. Two of our fearless News Group engineers are also setting up to face down the storm in Corpus Christi. Our thoughts and hearts go out to all those in the projected path, and a big thank you to our team who is braving the most extreme elements to bring news of this potentially devastating storm to viewers around the world.
On a lighter note, the MTV Video Music Awards airs this Sunday from The Forum in Inglewood, California. The festivities begin with the “Done and Dusted Road to the VMAs Festival” at the Avalon in Hollywood and continue through the weekend. Our team of Wes Hill and C36, John Jennings and C47, Jonathan Hutchinson and K33, and Larry Sheets and C15 will be there to provide coverage from start to finish.
Meanwhile, lead engineer Rick Ball and Justin Roszak will be at Virginia International Raceway in Alton with C12 for the IMSA race. The NASCAR Xfinity Series continues as well in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Todd Harvey and C43 are there to bring every heart-stopping moment to fans.
Tennis is also in full swing. Mati Kerpen and our Junior truck will be at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University in New Haven for the Connecticut Open. A bit farther south, Dave Buckman and K46 will be at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in North Carolina for the Winston-Salem Open.
As the beautiful summer weather continues, the world of golf heats up with some competition of its own. Steve Chaisson is at the lovely TPC Snoqualmie Ridge with our Atlas truck for the Boeing Classic this weekend. Dave Brin is just down the road at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Oregon, for the WinCo Foods Open. On the East Coast, Kevin Spangler is at Glen Oaks Club in Westbury, New York, with C24 for the Northern Trust Open. And north of the border, Craig Henry is at the Ottawa Golf and Hunt Club with CK25 for the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in Ontario.
Fall is fast approaching and high school football is underway, with ESPN2 televising many of this year’s games. This weekend, engineer Dave Feustel heads to Chandler, Arizona, with our Wolfcoach truck to cover the Chandler High School Wolves vs. IMG Academy Ascenders game. Dennis Smith will be in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with K44 to cover Central Dauphin High School vs. Susquehanna Township High School. Dave Mitchell will be at Hampton High School, where the Mars High School Fighting Planets will take on the Hampton High School Talbots. From there, Dave heads to Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, PA, where the Pine-Richland High School Rams defend their home field against the Wayne High School Warriors.
We are also in our fourth week of NFL preseason games, with one more week to go before the season begins. With trucks coast-to-coast and talented engineers at the ready, we never miss a game.
- Marty Smitherman was in Jacksonville, Florida, on Thursday with K38 for the Jaguars preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
- Mike Sheehan is in Denver, Colorado, at the Sports Authority Stadium at Mile High where the Denver Broncos will take on the Green Bay Packers.
- Nick Ray was in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, with C42 at Lincoln Financial Field where the Eagles defended their home territory against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.
- From there, Nick makes his way to Pittsburgh, where he will be joined by Dave Mitchell to cover the Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game at Heinz Field on Friday.
- Ron Ford and K26 head to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday for the Dallas Cowboys vs. Oakland Raiders game.
- John May, one the newer additions to the PSSI family, will be traveling all the way from Texas to Los Angeles this weekend to provide transmission services for CBS at the LA Coliseum as the San Diego Chargers take on the LA Rams.
