Company partners with NASCAR for complex transmission via satellite and fiber
VAN NUYS, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2020) — For the IMSA WeatherTech Rolex 24, PSSI Global Services, the industry leader in live event management, transmission and connectivity solutions, successfully engineered an at-home transmission that included delivery of 32 video paths and 150 audio paths via both satellite and AT&T Global Video Services fiber.
“This was a remarkably complex transmission for what is undoubtedly the biggest at-home transmission in the country,” said PSSI’s Director of Broadcast Sports Rick Ball. “Once again, we have continued to change the game, proving just how much can be accomplished with the right mix of expertise, experience and technology.”
Using two and a half transponders and only one amplifier, the company transmitted three different modulation schemes at the same time. The primary multiplex utilized DVB-S2X/32APSK, while the secondary program multiplex was modulated using DVB-S2X/16APSK, each at 125 Mbps. The third multiplex was 40 Mbps using DVB-S2/8PSK modulation. All together the three multiplexes, totaling 290 Mbps, occupied only 90 MHz of satellite bandwidth.
PSSI International Teleport (PIT) provided extensive hub services between the racetrack in Daytona Beach, Florida, and NASCAR headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In addition to transmission of the video and audio, PSSI Global Services was also responsible for providing comms and internet for production.
