It’s another weekend chock full of football for PSSI Global Services.
Friday night we have a 4K transmission airing on Fox and DirecTV. Rick Varney is on-site at the University of Illinois’s Memorial Stadium setting up for Nebraska’s visit to Champaign. Rick will be handling the UHD/4K transmission of the big game, and our team at the PSSI International Teleport is also preparing their monitoring stations to ensure a flawless broadcast to affiliates and viewers nationwide.
Parked right next to Rick is Steve Chaisson in the C24 truck and Rick Kolinek in the K22 truck. Steve and Rick will be providing primary and backup transmission paths for Fox.
Also for Fox this weekend we have Joe Cox in Minnesota for the Gophers vs. the Maryland Terrapins. Mike Sheehan is back in East Lansing for the C-band transmission of Iowa at Michigan State. Right next to him, Benny Griffis will be providing the Ku-band path out of Spartan Stadium. All the way out in Eugene, Oregon, Todd Harvey is preparing for Saturday’s game, as the University of Oregon hosts the Cal Bears. Down in Texas John May and John Poss are on board the dual-antenna CK48 providing two transmission paths for Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech.
The CBS SEC Game of the Week is at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Saturday, when the Volunteers host the Georgia Bulldogs. Rick Ball’s setting up his truck in the midst of over 100,000 fired-up football fans for Saturday’s broadcast.
We’re back in West Point for more Army Football. Mike Lemieux’s been to Michie Stadium once or twice in his engineering career, and he’ll be there again for the University of Texas at El Paso’s visit to historic West Point, live on CBS Sports Network Saturday afternoon.
We also have two at-home transmissions for ESPN this weekend. LA-based Chris Hovden flies to Baton Rouge for a 10-channel multiplexed transmission via fiber, as the LSU Tigers host the Troy Trojans. No truck pictures forthcoming from Chris, as he will be manning a stack of compression and monitoring equipment without an uplink truck.
Kyle Meyer is in Orlando for a 10-channel multiplexed transmission via satellite, in our newly christened C49 truck. Here, the University of Central Florida will host the Memphis Tigers.
We also have more high school and Division III football in Pennsylvania. Dave Mitchell’s at Pine-Richland High School Friday night, and then up at Edinboro University on Saturday. Steve Hagerty’s just up the road in Erie on Saturday for the broadcast of Gannon University’s visit to Mercyhurst University on Saturday afternoon.
Plenty of other sports keeping us busy this weekend, as well. Nick Ray is at the House of Blues in Boston on Saturday night. He’s there for a fight, not a concert, and Nick will be providing a multiplexed transmission for ESPN and international boxing fans around the world.
We’re at Dover International Speedway for this Sunday’s Dover Apache Warrior 400. Jonathan Ayala and Andy Kehn are at the helm of the C27 mobile teleport, providing multiple feeds for NASCAR through the weekend.
Over at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brian Blomstrom is on CK35 for Saturday night’s Las Vegas 350, another installment in the Camping World Truck Series that we’re proud to be a part of this season.
Same as ever, we are hard at work for Golf Channel at a couple of the nation’s finest courses. Boston-based Mike Howley is continuing his Florida “vacation” at the Atlantic Beach Country Club. Mike’s squeezing in a few days of tournament transmissions at the Web.com tourney in between some corporate events in the Sunshine State.
Every golf fan out there will have eyes on the Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Course in New Jersey this weekend. Golf Channel engineer in charge (EIC) Tracy Michaels has tagged out senior engineer Craig Henry to join Kevin Spangler for long, intensive days of satellite transmission, fiber encoding and communications support for the Golf Channel crew. Our CK25 truck is among the finest in the fleet, and the guys have it humming along with multiple feeds through Sunday.
A huge thank you to our amazing clients for giving us the opportunity to do what we love every week, and a huge thank you to the PSSI Global Services team for delivering exceptional results time and again.
