It’s an exciting weekend for PSSI Global Services as we converge on several huge events across the country.
Starting on the West Coast, we will be at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles for the MTV Movie and TV Awards on Sunday. It’s a full day of testing on Saturday for our three trucks, and we will also be on hand for the day-long Movie and Television Festival and red carpet show outside the Shrine before the show starts at 8 p.m. ET Sunday night.
Much of the free world will be watching Canelo Álvarez fight Julio César Chávez Jr. on Saturday night, live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. PSSI and Strategic Television have been there all week preparing for this phenomenal event. We’ve already transmitted multiple press conferences and a satellite media tour from locations around the city, and Friday we’ll be providing transmission and management services for the live weigh-in at the MGM Grand. Immediately following the weigh-in, we will provide a three-path multiplexed transmission of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN.
While all that’s going on, we’ll have two senior project managers, three seasoned engineers, and Director of Project Engineering Tracy Michaels setting up three trucks for the main event at T-Mobile Arena. We will provide domestic and international distribution of the fight for millions of viewers around the world. We will also have our K34 production/uplink hybrid truck on-site to provide a unilateral production for ESPN International on Saturday. And that’s not all! We’ll have three engineers setting up full ringside commentary services for several international broadcasters. It has already been a heckuva week, and PSSI Global Services is proud to cover every angle of one of the biggest television events of the year.
Pushing further east, Todd Harvey is all set up at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, where we will uplink a 12-path mux for this installment of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) series. From there, Todd drives our C32 up to Kansas City, where it will provide a 4K transmission for Fox’s coverage of NASCAR’s Go Bowling 400 next Saturday. The NASCAR team is at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend for the GEICO 500 on Sunday afternoon. Always plenty of racing in our schedule!
It’s not easy to park an uplink truck at Wrigley Field, but when the Yankees come to town and Fox wants us to be there, we figure it out. Senior engineer Mike Lemieux is on his way to Chicago to park our C43 truck in just the right spot for the game’s transmission.
C43 stays in Chicago for next week’s NBA combine. We will be there to provide a multiplexed “at-home” transmission for ESPN’s broadcast of this multiday showcase of future NBA talent.
There’s plenty of current NBA talent at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., where the Washington Wizards host the Boston Celtics for game four of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Rick Ball and C23 will be parked outside transmitting the game for Turner.
Marty Smitherman is on his way to Churchill Downs in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Smart money is on Marty providing a flawless transmission for the horse racing fans in Abu Dhabi who will be downlinking our signal.
Golf Channel regulars Kevin Spangler and Craig Henry are making their way to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to begin a solid 10 days of transmission services for the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Our dual-antenna mobile teleport CK25 will be the base of operations for multipath encoding to fiber, network returns, satellite transmissions and tape feeds for both Golf Channel and NBC. Kevin and Craig have a lot of work ahead of them, but they are well-prepared and excited to be at one of the biggest golf events of the season.
While PSSI Global Services is proud to be a significant part of these major events, we are equally dedicated to providing the same top level of service at smaller live events across the country. We’ve got college lacrosse in West Point and Hamilton, New York; MLS soccer in Minneapolis; and college volleyball in Columbus, Ohio. Next week we have WHL hockey in Seattle, a medical conference in Scottsdale and corporate events in the Bay Area. Our team prepares for every transmission with the same intensity and rigor all of our customers have come to expect.
