It’s a busy weekend of golf! Project manager Jennifer Hyder-Michaels and Golf Channel engineer in charge (EIC) Tracy Michaels have been busy planning for a weekend chock full of live golf action across the country. We have six overlapping golf events this weekend:
- Larry Sheets is at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa, for the Principal Charity Classic.
- Mike Howley is continuing his stint in Canada at the Whistle Bear Golf Club in Ontario, where he’s providing transmission services for the LPGA Classic.
- Newlywed Blake Blomstrom is at the Atlanta Athletic Club for the Arnold Palmer Cup, handling extensive transmission and communications services for Golf Channel news.
- Mike Sheehan is down in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
- Dave Brin is at the Rust-Oleum Championship in Ivanhoe, Illinois, through Sunday.
Then there’s the U.S. Open. Our majors team — Craig Henry, Kevin Spangler and the CK25 — is en route to Erin Hills golf course to get set for 10 solid days of extensive transmission services via satellite and fiber. Craig and Kevin will tag team long days of transmitting every single minute of the action coming out of Wisconsin.
Another big NASCAR weekend is upon us. Todd Harvey is finishing up a multi-city run down in Justin, Texas, at the Texas Motor Speedway for the latest installment of the Camping World Truck Series. Meanwhile, it’s time again for the Pocono 400 at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Kyle Meyer and Ben Bradshaw are there with the help of our C27 mobile teleport, and Dennis Smith is there as well providing backup transmission services with his Ku-band truck.
Rick Ball is back in Southern California. Cal State Long Beach is continuing their exciting run in the NCAA baseball tournament, and we’re there providing ESPN with seven video channels over satellite for the team back in Bristol, Connecticut, to produce the show for broadcast on the ESPN networks.
It’s a big weekend in Los Angeles for the gaming community. It’s E3 2017 — the huge Electronic Entertainment Expo at locations throughout downtown LA. We will be providing transmission services for the biggest players in the industry, including Microsoft and Ubisoft.
UFC stalwarts Jim Flowers and Garrett Hunt were delayed getting out of Rio de Janeiro following their great work on UFC 212 this past weekend. Each guy had less than 24 hours at home before boarding planes for Auckland, New Zealand, where we’re providing international transmission management for UFC Fight Night, live from Spark Arena Saturday night. Well, Saturday night in the U.S., at least. It’ll actually be Sunday afternoon for Garrett and Jim!
