Another busy weekend of golf is upon us! Our team is hard at work across the country providing extensive transmission services for Golf Channel.
- Wes Hill is up at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with our Atlas truck for the American Century tournament.
- Todd Harvey’s at the Oakridge Country Club for the Utah Championship with C15. From there the truck heads over the Rockies for some Long Drive qualifier coverage in Denver.
- There aren’t many engineers at PSSI Global Services who have spent more time on a golf course in the last two years than Craig Henry. He’s back at it in Silvis, Illinois, for the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. He’ll head home for some much-deserved rest before getting himself back on another golf course.
- Another PSSI Global Services workhorse, Kevin Spangler, is at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, for extensive coverage of the U.S. Women’s Open. Our CK25 will then be in a great position for the upcoming UFC event at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, next weekend.
- Mike Howley’s down the road at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, for the Constellation Senior Players Championship. Then, C45 heads to the shop for some tune-ups before it works its way back into the rotation, and Mr. Howley heads home for a tune-up of his own!
Of course, golf isn’t all we have planned. It’s fight night at the “Fabulous” Forum in Inglewood, California, this Saturday night. Senior engineer Paul Blomstrom is engineer in charge (EIC) of HBO’s live broadcast of Berchelt vs. Miura. Project managers Michael Hollander, Eric Hall and Tommy Lopez are there to provide support for domestic and international distribution of this big fight. John Jennings and Steve Chaisson will be manning the uplinks while Mark Huss will provide extensive ringside commentary services for announcers from around the world.
Chris Hovden is back at the Belasco Theatre in downtown LA Friday night for LA Fight Club, which will be broadcast around the globe. After that, there’s not much rest for Chris, who heads down to Carson, California, Saturday night for the first of many Manchester United friendlies throughout the U.S. We will be covering upcoming matches in Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, Houston, Santa Clara and Orlando, to name just a few.
We also have more fighting in the middle of the country. Senior engineers Mike Lemieux and Zane Michaels are at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma, for Bellator 181 Friday night.
Just up the road in Miami, Oklahoma, Dallas-based engineer Ron Ford is setting up his K26 truck for Showtime’s ShoBox fight at the Buffalo Run Casino.
A wee bit further away, Jim Flowers and Keith Valeri are in Glasgow, Scotland, at the SSE Hydro for an exciting night of UFC fights. They’re working with our trusted partners there in Scotland to provide transmission services to get this fight to viewers around the world.
We’re still plenty busy in Las Vegas following UFC Fight Week. Joe Cox is in the middle of the U.S. Masters Darts Tournament at the Tropicana. That’s right — darts! Joe’s Ku-band feed will be distributed to darts fans around the world — and there’s a lot of ’em!
Meanwhile, John Bright and Jonathan Hutchinson continue their production and transmission services for ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The heat has subsided a bit — it’s only about 105 today!
Barbara Worthington, our director of corporate and media events, has been busy preparing for multiple uplinks across Las Vegas next week for a major corporate event. We will have four trucks at four locations across the city, all uplinking and downlinking each other’s signals for one of our most valued corporate clients.
We’re also kicking off a long run of following World TeamTennis. Mati Kerpen will be setting up on Sunday at the West Side Tennis Club in Queens, New York, for the first of many matches for which we’ll be providing Ku-band transmissions for domestic and international distribution.
We’ll be at the International Indian Film Academy Festival at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, this weekend as well. We’ll have senior engineer Rick Varney providing encoding services for the host broadcaster, and new-to-PSSI engineer Dave Mitchell (part of our new PSSI International Teleport team) will be on-site to provide transmission services for our customers in India.
Last but not least, Shrewsbury-based engineer Nick Ray is visiting Martha’s Vineyard. He and his truck got on the ferry yesterday morning to prepare for a high-profile political interview on Sunday afternoon. Hope the weather’s nice for his weekend on the island!
