With only one college football game this weekend, one might think PSSI would be taking some time to rest and reflect on an action-packed and successful season. That is not the case — it’s another busy weekend for us from coast to coast, and beyond!
- That one college football game is a big one: the annual Army vs. Navy game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. We’ll have two trucks there to support our friends at CBS and CBS SportsNet as they cover this time-honored tradition.
- There’s still plenty of football going on, of course. A little farther up I-95, we’ll be at the Redskins vs. Eagles game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. We’ll also be at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, for Monday Night Football as the New England Patriots host the Baltimore Ravens.
- Still farther north, we’re back in Orono, Maine, for more University of Maine hockey. This will be the inaugural PSSI uplink for the newest member of our team, Rick Varney. We are very happy to add Rick’s 40-plus years of industry experience to our already stellar group of engineers.
- And we have more hockey in Milwaukee. Our Chicago-based truck will be there for Saturday’s matchup between the Milwaukee Admirals and the Chicago Wolves.
- It’s another big weekend for UFC. We have two trucks at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York, for UFC on FOX Sports 1. This Friday night fight in chilly Albany will warm us up for UFC 206 in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday. We have three trucks, four engineers and our UFC project manager on-site for North American and international distribution of this Pay-Per-View event.
- It’s not all ice and snow — we’re still playing golf! Golf Channel has us at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, for coverage of the PNC Father/Son Challenge. It’s hard to believe that this is our last Golf Channel event for 2016. We had trucks and engineers at 134 events in 2016 all over North America. It has been quite a run, and our 2017 schedule looks even busier! We love golf at PSSI!
- Heading west, we have a big HBO fight at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. We’ll have three trucks, four engineers and two project managers for delivery to HBO and international licensees around the world. We also have one of our senior engineers in Auckland, New Zealand, for a remote insert into this live event.
- We also have more boxing in Los Angeles. We’ll have a truck there for the domestic uplink of Showtime Championship Boxing at the Galen Center. We are encoding and monitoring the international path that is going out via fiber, and we’re providing a unilateral transmission with commentary positions for customers in Mexico.
- Also in LA this weekend: the Critics’ Choice Awards. We’re at this great event every year to provide satellite uplink services, encoding to fiber and on-site project management. We are very excited for another busy awards season. The SAG Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Grammys and Oscars are just around the corner!
- A little farther south, in San Diego, we’ll be uplinking the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships. We will downlink the signal in Las Vegas and re-encode with our streaming encoders to push to our client’s content delivery network (CDN).
- Back up the I-5 freeway, our Pacific Northwest engineer is putting chains on his tires so he can cover the snowstorm in Portland, Oregon. Our guys get it done in all kinds of weather!
There’s never a dull moment for the PSSI team — and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
