College football bowl season is officially in full swing. We are ever grateful for those engineers who are working through the holidays so that the rest of us can enjoy top-shelf sports broadcasts at home with our families.
- We just wrapped a flawless 10-channel at-home transmission via fiber at the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. The Boca Raton Bowl — with 10 channels via satellite — was also an unequivocal success.
- We are parking and powering as we speak for the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. This is another 10-channel multiplexed transmission via satellite. That same truck heads to Shreveport, Louisiana, on Christmas Eve to set up for the Independence Bowl.
- Also on Christmas Eve: the Hawaii Bowl from Aloha Stadium. This will be our first multichannel at-home transmission via satellite from Hawaii. Those same intrepid engineers will hop over to the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu for the Diamond Head Classic. Our guys are putting in a lot of work on the big island!
- We’ll also be working through the holiday in Saint Petersburg, Florida, for another at-home transmission of the St. Petersburg Bowl. The game airs on Dec. 26, but our engineer will be there prepping for the event Dec. 24-25.
- After these bowls, we will be moving on to the Big 6 — PSSI is the exclusive transmission provider for ESPN’s broadcasts of the Peach Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl.
- Last but not least, PSSI will be there in full force for the National Championship in Tampa, Florida, on Jan. 9.
We have plenty of NFL football on our plates as well. We’re in Oakland for CBS’ coverage of the Oakland Raiders game on Christmas Eve. We’ll also be at Soldier Field on Christmas Eve for the Bears vs. Redskins. On Christmas Day, we’re in Pittsburgh for the big Ravens vs. Steelers rivalry.
While we’re at it, how about a Pay-Per-View? We are already gearing up for UFC 207 in Las Vegas on Friday, Dec. 30. This will be Ronda Rousey’s first fight since her shocking loss at UFC 193. We were there for that, too, of course! Our top engineers and project managers will be onsite at T-Mobile Arena for domestic and worldwide distribution of this huge event.
PSSI/Strategic Television extends our best holiday wishes to all of our clients, vendors, partners and families. Thank you for a great 2016, and we’re looking forward to an even better 2017! Happy New Year!
