The RF Interference – End User Initiative (EUI), a not-for-profit association of major broadcasters, has commended PSSI Global Services for the company’s commitment to use industry-endorsed best practices by having all of its staff engineers EUI Certified by the end of 2014. PSSI is leading the industry in Certifications with five engineers who have already successfully completed the EUI Advanced Technical Operators exam.
The EUI Certification exam was created as part of the GVF Training & Certification Program to ensure that uplink operators are properly trained as one step towards preventing satellite interference. There are five levels of RFI-EUI Certification available through GVF. The Advanced Technical Operator (ATO), aimed at occasional use satellite uplink operators such as SNG van/truck operators and teleport uplink technicians, is the most demanding Certification level of the series. The Basic Technical Operator (BTO) exam for the basic SNG operator, the Basic auto Point Operator (BAPO) and the General Auto Point Operator (GAPO) for auto-deploy situations, and the SCHED Certification level is for those closely associated with satellite transmission but who are non-operators such as schedulers and managers.
The RFI-EUI Certification exams are administered through the GVF training system and include demonstrating knowledge in the areas of: Interference, Spacecraft, RF Theory, and Operation. Use of on-line simulators enables and demonstrates critical skills such as site selection, using a spectrum analyzer, accessing a satellite and cable termination.
Certification requires successfully passing a timed on-line exam and simulator-based skills test with a grade of 80% or better.
